      INDABA

Cruising the World

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by."

                                                                                                    John Masefield.

This website has been created by the owners of  INDABA to log a record of their journey sailing the world. It will act as a portal so that their friends and family can stay in touch with the great adventure. The message board is available for everyone’s use so post a friendly word!.

S/Y INDABA is a 16.50 metre cutter sloop built by Rex Marine in Sweden, a yard now owned by NAJAD. INDABA was designed by Carl Beyer and her lines are identical to the NAJAD 510. The yacht is equipped for extended deep sea blue-water cruising and she is unusual in that she has twin diesel engines.

The owners have optimised the layout of the yacht to enable them to cruise extensively for at least five years and they will be accompanied on the whole adventure by their two cats.

Yacht Details

INDABA is a Zulu word and it was used to describe a serious meeting or gathering of the tribe and its elders. Any portentous event would merit an INDABA and the people would gather for a meeting, often under the INDABA TREE (usually a BAOBAB).

Nikki's Poetry

The word INDABA can also mean trouble and coupled with the word MNINGY (INDABA) this means a LOT of trouble.

This is probably why the dinghy is called

MNINGY INDABA.
